Human ("we," "our," or "the app") is a mobile application that helps you connect with people nearby. Human is the app you download on your device, which communicates with our servers and uses device features (such as Bluetooth) to provide matching and discovery. This Privacy Policy describes what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices. By using Human, you agree to this policy.
We collect specific information to provide our services. We do not use data to track users across third-party apps or websites, and we do not share data with data brokers.
Chat content: Messages are encrypted on your device before they are sent. Our servers store only encrypted message content (ciphertext). We do not read or use the content of your messages for advertising or profiling.
All data is collected for the primary purpose of App Functionality. Specifically, we use your information to:
No Sale of Data: We do not sell your personal information to third parties for marketing. We do not share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing.
Service Providers: We use providers that help us run the app (e.g., hosting, databases, cloud storage, push delivery). They process data on our instructions under agreements that protect your data.
Apple Integrations: Push notifications are delivered via Apple's push service; Apple's privacy policy applies to their processing.
Legal and Safety: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect rights, safety, or property.
We keep your account and profile data while your account is active and as needed to provide the service and comply with law.
Verification codes and temporary tokens are short-lived and discarded after use or expiry.
Encrypted message content may be retained as long as needed to provide the messaging feature.
You can delete your account; after that, we will delete or anonymize your data consistent with our retention practices, except where required for legal or safety reasons.
We use industry-standard practices: hashed passwords, encryption of messages before they leave your device, secure token storage in the Keychain, and secure server communication (HTTPS). However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Human is strictly limited to users who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18. If you believe an individual under 18 has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately so we can delete their data and terminate their account.
Our servers and service providers may be located in the United States or other countries. By using Human, you consent to the transfer and processing of your information in those countries, which may have different data protection laws than your country.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy in the app or at a URL we provide and, where required by law, ask for your consent. The "Last updated" date at the top will change when we do.

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms," "Terms of Service," or "ToS") are a binding agreement between you and Human ("Company," "we," "us," or "our") governing your access to and use of the Human mobile application and related services, including matching, discovery, messaging, and any associated websites or APIs (collectively, the "Service"). By creating an account, using the Service, or indicating acceptance (e.g., by tapping "Sign Up" or "I Agree"), you agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference.
You and Human acknowledge that these Terms are concluded between you and Human only, and not with Apple Inc. ("Apple"). Human, not Apple, is solely responsible for the Service and the content thereof. You acknowledge that Apple has no obligation whatsoever to furnish any maintenance and support services with respect to the Service. In the event of any failure of the Service to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any) for the app to you; to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Apple will have no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the Service. Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims by you or any third party relating to the Service or your possession and/or use of the Service, including, but not limited to: (i) product liability claims; (ii) any claim that the Service fails to conform to any applicable legal or regulatory requirement; and (iii) claims arising under consumer protection, privacy, or similar legislation.
You and Human acknowledge and agree that Apple, and Apple's subsidiaries, are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms, and that, upon your acceptance of the terms and conditions of this agreement, Apple will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary thereof.
You must be at least 18 years of age to use the Service. By creating an account and using the Service, you represent and warrant that you are 18 or older. If you do not meet this requirement, you must not access or use the Service.
The Service requires a valid, active edu email address or other proof of enrollment at a recognized educational institution. We reserve the right to periodically verify your student status. If you graduate, leave your institution, or lose access to your edu email, your access to the Service may be suspended, altered, or terminated at our discretion.
You must provide accurate, current, and complete information when registering and keep it updated. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials (including your password) and for all activity under your account. You must notify us promptly of any unauthorized use. We may suspend or terminate your account if we believe you have violated these Terms or for other reasons consistent with this agreement.
The Service makes available proprietary, generative AI-powered algorithms and machine learning models designed to facilitate user discovery, curate profile recommendations, and optimize matching. By using the Service, you acknowledge, consent, and authorize Human to process your profile data, interactions, and preferences through these artificial intelligence tools.
YOU ACKNOWLEDGE AND AGREE THAT THE AI TOOLS AND ALGORITHMS PROVIDED BY THE SERVICE ARE NOT HUMAN. Human does not guarantee that any matches, recommendations, or algorithmic outputs will result in successful interactions or absolute compatibility. Machine learning technology is evolving, and the Service is intended solely for personal, informational, and entertainment purposes.
You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree NOT to: Use the Service in any way that violates applicable law or the rights of others. Harass, bully, stalk, threaten, or abuse any user, or send unsolicited sexual, violent, or otherwise offensive content. Impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your identity or affiliation. Use the Service for fraud, spam, phishing, or to distribute malware or harmful code.
You are strictly prohibited from attempting to: Scrape, crawl, or use automated means (bots, scripts, etc.) to access the Service or collect user data without our prior written permission. Circumvent or attempt to circumvent any security, access control, rate limits, or eligibility checks. Interfere with or disrupt the Service or the servers or networks connected to the Service. Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise attempt to discover the source code, underlying algorithms, or AI models of the Service.
Human maintains a strict, zero-tolerance policy against objectionable content and abusive users. You may not use the Service to promote violence, discrimination, or illegal activity. The Service provides in-app mechanisms to block abusive users and flag objectionable content. We will act on reports of objectionable content within 24 hours by removing the content and ejecting the user who provided the offending content. We may remove content, suspend, or terminate accounts that we determine violate these rules or harm the safety or experience of other users. Our decisions are final in this regard.
The Service (including its design, text, graphics, logos, software, and other materials, excluding User Content) is owned by the Company or its licensors and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. Furthermore, Human expressly retains all ownership, title, and interest in and to its matching algorithms, AI models, machine learning infrastructure, and all improvements made thereto. "Human" and related marks are our trademarks; you may not use them without our permission.
You retain ownership of content you submit to the Service (e.g., profile text, photos, messages, questionnaire answers) ("User Content"). By submitting User Content, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable, and transferable license to use, store, display, reproduce, modify (e.g., for technical processing or formatting), and distribute your User Content solely to operate, provide, and improve the Service (e.g., showing your profile to potential matches, storing and delivering your messages, running our matching algorithm).
You agree that Human may utilize your User Content to train, develop, enhance, and evolve the underlying artificial intelligence models and algorithms that power the Service. However, we strictly maintain the privacy of your direct peer-to-peer messages. We do not proactively monitor private chats, nor do we use the contents of private peer-to-peer messaging to train our AI models, unless such messages are explicitly flagged and reported by a user for safety violations.
You are solely responsible for your interactions with other users. The Company does not conduct criminal background checks on its users or otherwise inquire into the background of its users. We make no representations or warranties as to the conduct or compatibility of users.
HUMAN IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY ACTIVITIES, INCIDENTS, INJURIES, OR DAMAGES THAT OCCUR OFFLINE BETWEEN YOU AND ANY USERS YOU MEET THROUGH THE SERVICE. Always use your best judgment and take appropriate safety precautions when communicating with or meeting new people, both online and in person.
The Service may contain links to third-party websites, advertisements, or integrations with third-party platforms. When you click on a link to a third-party service, you become subject to the terms and conditions and privacy policies of that third party. Human does not review, control, or endorse any third-party services and is not responsible for their content or data practices. Your interactions with third-party services are entirely at your own risk.
The Service is provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Company disclaims all warranties, whether express, implied, or statutory, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee that: The Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free. Any defects or errors will be corrected. The Service or servers are free of viruses or harmful components. You will find matches, dates, or friends through the Service.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, in no event will the Company, its affiliates, directors, employees, or agents be liable for any indirect, consequential, exemplary, incidental, special, or punitive damages, including lost profits, lost data, or personal injury/property damage related to or arising out of your use of the Service. Under no circumstances shall our aggregate liability to you for all claims relating to the Service exceed the greater of $100 USD or the amount you paid us, if any, in the past six (6) months.
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Company and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, disputes, demands, liabilities, damages, losses, and costs and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in any way connected with: Your access to or use of the Service. Your User Content. Your violation of these Terms or any applicable law. Your interaction with any other user.
PLEASE READ THIS SECTION CAREFULLY AS IT AFFECTS YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS, INCLUDING YOUR RIGHT TO FILE A LAWSUIT IN COURT.
These Terms shall be governed by the laws of North Carolina and California, without regard to its conflict of law principles.
Before filing a claim, you and Human agree to attempt to resolve the dispute informally. You agree to notify us in writing of your dispute via email. If the dispute is not resolved within forty-five (45) days of notice, either party may initiate formal proceedings.
Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be resolved through binding arbitration in North Carolina and California, rather than in court. The arbitration will be administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) in accordance with its Consumer Arbitration Rules.
You and the Company agree to waive any right to a jury trial or to participate in a class-action lawsuit. All claims must be brought on an individual basis, and the arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person's claims.
To increase the efficiency of administration and resolution of arbitrations, you and Human agree that in the event there are one hundred (100) or more individual Requests of a substantially similar nature filed against Human by or with the assistance of the same law firm or organization within a thirty (30) day period, the AAA shall administer the arbitration demands in batches of 100 Requests per batch. You and Human agree to cooperate in good faith with the AAA to implement this Batch Arbitration process to minimize the time and costs of arbitration.
You may terminate this agreement at any time by deleting your account and removing the Human app from your device. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account, or restrict your access to the Service, at any time, for any reason, and without notice or liability. Common reasons for termination include violations of these Terms, suspected fraudulent activity, or behavior that harms the community. Upon termination, the licenses granted by these Terms will immediately cease.
We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes in our app, the law, or our business practices. If we make material changes, we will notify you (e.g., via email, push notification, or an in-app alert) before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of the updated Terms constitutes your acceptance of the changes.
